I'm answering my own post!
We went to see Italica in February, a Sunday, and it was raining.
To get there, you travel to Sevilla, and follow the route heading north to Merida. Before leaving Sevilla, take the turning for Santiponce. This is a picturesque village/town; and Italica is a roman ruin of a village within a village.
The ruins are scattered throughout, but there is a plan/map near the tourist info office (which was closed). We spotted the forum, and, although small in scale compared to Merida and others, it would be of interest to archeology buffs.
The main (open air) attraction (I believe there is a fee to get in?) appears to be located at the entrance to the village near a row of popular looking restaurants (one being famous for winning El Gordo recently). There were a few people with umberellas walking about the site, & plenty of cars parked near the restaurants, so we decided to keep out of the rain and return at a later date. Instead, we headed into Sevilla (and it was quiet! little traffic! beautiful!) |
