I had a place to eat reccomended to me and went to try it out. It was that good I must make mention of it and thrououghly agree its a little diamond of a restaurant/cafe.
Its called the "Mars Bar" (a pun on the chocolate bar), and is situated about 500 metres from the centre of Manta Rota (Portugal side). Manta Rota is about 10-15 km from Ayamonte.
Blink and you miss it. set back from a small row of shops. Look out for the Mars Bar signs.
All the locals know of the place. They serve huge portions, and the owner is quite entertaining. He talked me into his 'special'. Now I have a huge appetight and there isn't many meals that can beat me, but this did. For 7-8 euros it was extremely good value.
Try the bbq ribs or chicken kebab.

We´ve been there too. I liked the variety of food offered which was a real mix of nationalities, and like you say LARGE portions. Spanish (or portuguese) food can get a bit samey.
The atmosphere was a bit like that of a bar on the Costa del Sol though which I am not too keen on. Kind of like the Sugar Reef at Isla Canela - my least favourite bar in all of Ayamonte!! |
